Talk about a fun way to put your money where your mouth is! The Venetian Las Vegas has announced LIPSHTICK – THE PERFECT SHADE OF STAND UP, a newly branded resident comedy series that marks the first time in the storied entertainment history of Las Vegas that the comedy stage will be taken exclusively by female performers. The new series will debut July 11 with appearances by daytime television personality Wendy Williams and will bring regular stand-up comedy performances to The Sands Showroom from an opening slate of 14 critically acclaimed comediennes.
The series was announced last week by comedienne Whitney Cummings, television personality and co-creator of the hit CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, at a press conference at The Venetian Las Vegas. The Voice has announced the season six top three finalists who will join the current lineup for the highly anticipated THE VOICE 2014 SUMMER TOUR. The tour launches on Saturday, June 21 and stops at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Friday, July 25.The tour’s confirmed finalists include Christina Grimmie, who has more than 2 million subscribers on YouTube; Josh Kaufman, who received a four-chair turn-around; and country singer Jake Worthington. Jake Barker will also be joining the lineup. His blind audition of “When I Was Your Man” earned an impressive 1.791 million plus hits on YouTube and helped secure him a surprise invitation by the tour as one of nine performers hitting the road this summer. Audiences can vote to help determine which current artist from season six will be named “fan favorite artist” and join the lineup.

During a Friday afternoon press conference, First Friday Las Vegas, the largest arts and culture festival in the Western United States, announced changes to the organization and festival, promising stronger and better events for the future of the arts community and Downtown Las Vegas. The pre-eminent example of artistic and cultural enrichment in the Las Vegas community begins implementing these changes that will begin on Friday, August 1 and continue throughout the second-half of 2014.
One of the important announcements included First Friday is going dark on Friday, July 4, 2014 for the month returning with a bold August event. This is the first time in three years that First Friday Las Vegas will not producing an event. Beginning with First Friday on August 1, the traditional First Friday “footprint” will expand with happenings throughout Downtown Las Vegas, including the Arts District, Symphony Park and Fremont East. The epicenter will remain along Casino Center Drive at Charleston Boulevard in the middle of 18b, the Arts District. With the success of the Sheryl Crow concert at Container Park and Healthy Indulgence/Next Dimension at the Keep Memory Alive Events Center, it is an important time to expand the First Friday boundaries with the growth of downtown.

Rock music legend and “Cat Scratch Fever”’ singer, Ted Nugent brings his impressive guitar skills and live show to the Orleans Showroom on July 12. Nugent’s musical talents, ear shattering volume and over-the-top onstage antics quickly earned him the nickname "Motor City Madman.” Nugent initially gained fame as the lead guitarist of the band “The Amboy Dukes” before embarking on a solo career. It looks like David Arquette has even more to celebrate aside from his newborn son. At a lunch recently at La Cave Wine & Food Hideaway he was joined by another gentlemen, and the two enjoyed a festive lunch at Michael and Jenna Morton's popular Wynn Las Vegas restaurant. Their meal included ahi tuna, table-side smoked salmon, lump crab lettuce cups, Caesar salad, bacon wrapped dates and tomato flatbread, paired with a bottle of Dom Perignon and Champagne toasts. At the end of the meal, Arquette was presented with a chocolate cake with "Congratulations" written on the plate in chocolate. Arquette was in a great mood, smiling and laughing throughout the lunch.

While celebrating its 60th anniversary at a private media event and press conference held at Sunset Springs Ranch, Opportunity Village announced that they have been offered the largest monetary donation in the history of the organization – $35 million – from the Engelstad Family Foundation. Believed to be the largest private foundation gift ever given to an organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities, the generous amount will be provided as a challenge gift, which has already been partially matched by Dorothy and Lacy Harber, owners of Sunset Springs Ranch (former Wayne Newton estate), who came forward with a donation $10 million.
Ending with Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman’s proclamation of “Opportunity Village Year”, many other announcements were made, including plans to commemorate Opportunity Village’s 60th Anniversary with a full year of celebrations through May 15, 2015; plans for The Village residences, the organization’s first residential facility, and a permanent North Campus; a retrofit of its Oakey Campus, which houses the organization’s renowned Magical Forest holiday attraction; and an expansion of the Walters Family Campus, home of the Paper Prossm document management division. In an effort to secure the additional funding necessary for these projects, Opportunity Village also announced it will execute an aggressive $136 million Capital Campaign crucial to the success of the unveiled projects.
