Summer will be arriving a couple of months early this year, at least at the Flamingo Las Vegas where Olivia Newton-John will begin her “Summer Nights” residency on April 8. The beloved internationally renowned star will guarantee that it will be a hot time in this city as she takes audiences on a musical journey through her life as a celebrated singer, actress, songwriter, and philanthropist in the Donny & Marie Showroom..

“I am thrilled to be able to call Las Vegas home for a while,” says Olivia. “I have performed here many times through the years and have had nothing but wonderful memories and I look forward to even more fun at the Flamingo. I am especially thrilled that a portion of every ticket sold will benefit the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.”

In 1978, Newton-John’s co-starring role with John Travolta in Grease catapulted her into super-stardom and, to date, remains the most successful movie musical of all time. Commemorating its 35th anniversary last year, Grease is sure to play a significant role in “Summer Nights.” The production will feature an eight-piece band backing Newton-John up on her hits from her early years including “Have You Never Been Mellow,” “Let Me Be There,” “If You Love Me Let Me Know” and “I Honestly Love You,” as well some of her favorites from Grease, “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “You’re The One That I Want,” and of course, “Summer Nights.”  She will also perform favorites and hits from her other movies, including Xanadu, as well as her 80’s anthem and record- breaking song “Physical” and new songs from her recent Billboard hit album Grace and Gratitude .

What’s in a name? Well, when that name is Jackson, it is a brand of iconic music, harmony, high energy, and nostalgia all of its own. The Jacksons, Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Jermaine, are headlining the, RockTellz & CockTails series at Planet Hollywood through April 27th.and are delighting audience members by taking them on an interactive, unforgettable journey through their historic lives and influential musical career.

Idols unlike any other in music history, The Jacksons redefined, reinvented and reinvigorated popular music as we know it, with nine number-one hits and 14 Top-10 hits, including “ABC,” “I Want You Back” and “I’ll Be There,” the latter of which remains the group’s most successful single to date. The show is peppered with poignant stories, videos and photos that bring back memories of the Jackson golden days when a young Michael, the fifth member of The Jackson 5 as they were called at that time, was just beginning his stellar career. On VIP/press night, mama Katherine Jackson and papa Joe Jackson were in the audience. Michael’s two sons Prince Michael and Blanket were with them.

The ultimate Girls’ Night Out experience, Divorce Party Las Vegas, will debut inside the Windows Showroom at Bally’s Las Vegas on March 8, offering audiences a hilarious romp around relationships.An 80-minute comedic musical event, Divorce Party Las Vegas centers around Linda, still reeling from her divorce, as her friends turn her despair into a weekend of hilarity. Hailed by the L.A. Weekly as a blend of “Sex and the City with Dr. Phil, Oprah and SNL,” the show uses laughs, popular songs with new lyrics, and the occasional naughty shock factor to explore the realities of divorce, long term relationships and moving on.

Iconic funny man Bill Cosby, who has been making audiences laugh for decades with his keen insight into everyday existence, brings his signature comedy back to the Treasure Island Theatre March 14 at 8 p.m.

Rock star Sammy Hagar dined at his spot on the Strip at Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Miles Shops inside Planet Hollywood this past week.The Red Rocker was in town to support the Keep Memory Alive fundraiser to benefit Chef Kerry Simon Says Fight MSA, and visited his favorite rockin’ dining and live music venue in Las Vegas before the benefit. Accompanied by his wife, Kari Karte, and business friends, Hagar and the group indulged in appetizers and hand-crafted cocktails. The Red Rocker also enjoyed one of the restaurant’s newest menu items, Sammy’s Tequila Shrimp served with Mexican dirty rice. Hagar left Cabo Wabo to go to do his sound check for the fundraiser that evening where he performed with Slash on-stage

Imagine Exhibition Gallety will debut its newest feature exhibition, Da Vinci The Exhibition, at The Venetian Las Vegas. Opening March 12, 2014, the experience follows the Renaissance master, Leonardo da Vinci, on a journey of innovation, creativity, science and wonder amid beautiful scenes of the Italian countryside. Featuring more than 65 fully built, life-size inventions, more than 20 fine art studies and dozens of stunning displays, guests will learn the complex beginnings and lifetime achievements of da Vinci through his discoveries in art, engineering, flight, hydraulics, music, light and more.

On Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22, Depression-era researcher, author and lecturer Ellen Poulsen will appear at The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. She will be signing copies of her books, “Don’t Call Us Molls: Women of the John Dillinger Gang” and “The Case Against Lucky Luciano: New York’s Most Sensational Vice Trial” on Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Museum gift shop and giving an Author’s Talk in the Museum’s historic courtroom on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.  

 “The Tom Green Show – An Outrageous Evening of Comedy, Satire & Storytelling” is the debut of the iconic comedian/actor’s innovative and groundbreaking one man show inside Vinyl at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. This unique and intimate live show will combine Green’s clever and irreverent stand-up comedy along with his insightful satirical storytelling that will take the audience on a wild ride of sights, sounds, music and laughter. On Friday, March 7, First Friday brings the magic and art of filmmaking into focus this month with plenty of activities to embrace the popular medium for every age. First Friday is looking for Las Vegas filmmakers for a First Friday Film Competition, which will culminate at April’s event. Cinematographers looking to compete must make a three – five minute entry with the theme, “Secrets of First Friday,” all shot during the March festival. Attendees will get into the spirit with First Friday and songs from some of the most popular and famous movie soundtracks, as they ring through the streets.  

Nightclub & Bar Media Group has named The Laundry Room at Commonwealth the ‘Best Las Vegas Cocktail Bar of the Year’ in the 2014 Nightlife & Bar Awards. The Laundry Room, Commonwealth’s discrete backroom speakeasy, features a pre-Prohibition-inspired drink menu independent of the main bar and is accessible only to those with a reservation or password. The cocktail-exclusive drink selections include handcrafted rum, whiskey, bubbles, tequila and gin varieties created by Boozologist Dan Marohnic.

Jubilee, the longest-running and most iconic show on the famed Las Vegas Strip, will reopen at Bally’s Las Vegas on Monday, March 17 after undergoing a major transformation.  Donn Arden’s Jubilee! first opened on July 30, 1981 and quickly became a staple in Las Vegas entertainment. To this day the unparalleled grand spectacle remains to be the last show of its kind, featuring the Strip’s only remaining authentic showgirls.  While the best of the show’s main elements will be preserved as a nod to the original production, the choreography, staging and music will be refreshed for today’s audience.  Leading the charge in the modernization of Jubilee is one of the world’s most celebrated creative directors and choreographers, Frank Gatson Jr. Gatson’s extensive background in the performing arts has led him to an impressive list of accomplishments working with top-notch celebrities and brands. 

REO Speedwagon will take the stage at Fremont Street Experience for a free performance on Saturday, March 8 at 9 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage. The iconic rock band will rev up crowds during the 11th Annual RaceJam with iconic songs including: “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Take It On the Run,” “Keep on Loving You,”  “Roll with the Changes” and more. The concert is part of the 11th Annual RaceJam 2014 is a three-day event celebrating all the NASCAR action taking place with NASCAR merchandise booths and free nightly entertainment taking place Thursday, March 6 – Sunday, March 9. 

Best known for playing the much-loved character George Costanza on Seinfeld, a role which garnered him six Emmy and four Golden Globe nominations, an American Television Award and two American Comedy Awards, actor, director, writer and comedian Jason Alexander can now add Las Vegas headliner to his resume. Alexander will perform his hilarious one-man show, AN EVENING WITH JASON ALEXANDER AND HIS HAIR at Harrah’s Las Vegas Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings for four weeks beginning Friday, April 11.  

Monte Carlo Resort and Casino and sbe will debut Double Barrel Roadhouse on March 7, 2014. The highly anticipated opening of Double Barrel will mark the first authentic roadhouse experience on The Strip and will be the first outlet to open within the dynamic new plaza experience being created on Las Vegas Blvd. at the front of Monte Carlo. With a spirit that’s both untamed and inviting, Double Barrel will showcase high-energy live music and entertainment, an array of craft cocktails and beers and a Southern-inspired menu in a 12,000 square foot, indoor-outdoor space envisioned by award-winning designer Mark Zeff.

Brass Transit, a tribute act to classic rock-jazz band Chicago, returns to the Suncoast Showroom on March 8 and 9.Brass Transit’s show includes all the hits from Chicago’s golden age (1969-1976), including “Does Anybody Know What Time It Is,” “Saturday in the Park” and “25 or 6 to 4.” With a world-class horn section, a rocking rhythm section and vocals stacked sky-high, Brass Transit transports its audience back to the freewheeling days of the ‘70s.

GRAMMY Award-winning artist Dwight Yoakam will headline The Pearl inside Palms Casino Resort on March 29, 2014 at 8 p.m. 21st Century Hits shines the spotlight on this country pioneer’s second act, which showcases him embracing rock, Americana, pop and soul with aplomb and the same fiery passion first displayed on his trail blazing 1986 debut. In 2013, Yoakam was granted the Artist of the Year award from the Americana Music Association at the 12th Annual Americana Music Honors and Awards.

Returning to Las Vegas for a record-smashing 55th consecutive year, internationally renowned comedian, actor and entertainer Don Rickles is set for two weekends at The Orleans Showroom in 2014: March 22 and 23 and October 11 and 12. Having earned the nicknames “The Merchant of Venom” and “Mr. Warmth,” (the latter coined affectionately by Johnny Carson), Rickles’ style of comedy is never mean-spirited and all part of his act. It has been said that being “zinged” by Rickles is like “wearing a badge of honor.

The Martelli Brothers have announced that American Racing Legend, Parnelli Joneswill be the Grand Marshal for the 2014 General Tire Mint 400, presented by Polaris. Jones had a long and illustrious carrier in racing, and is well known for pushing race vehicles to their limits, and beyond. Winner of the 1963 Indy 500, Parnelli was the first driver to qualify at more than 150 mph, and is one of only two men to have ever won The Indy 500 and The Mint 400. The dates for the Mint 400 are March 13-16 with actual race day being March 15.

Grammy Award-winning alternative rock band, Tool, will perform inside The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Saturday, March 15 at 8 p.m.  Formed in 1990, Tool is comprised of lead vocalist Maynard Kennan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor. The group has performed as the headline act in world tours and major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, Big Day Out and Bonnaroo. On Wednesday Feb. 19, 2014, the musical, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET celebrated its first anniversary in Las Vegas at Harrah’s Las Vegas. Following a full standing ovation during the show’s finale, cast member Marc D. Donovan (“Sam Phillips”) took the stage to address the house, sharing words of gratitude for the audience’s support of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET in its first year. At the conclusion of his speech, the company was presented with a commemorative guitar-shaped cake onstage.

The Las Vegas Soul Festival is back and more entertaining than ever. Body English Nightclubinside Hard Rock Hotel & Casinodebuted POPLIFE, a new weekly experience for fans of the ‘80s and early ‘90s, with top-selling R&B/pop act Color Me Badd on Thursday, Feb. 13. The group took photos with fans before stepping on stage to perform several of its greatest hits including “I Adore Mi Amor,” “All For Love,” and  “I Wanna Sex You Up.” DJs Hass Deniro and Mikey Swift were in the DJ booth spinning the best throwback tunes.
