Top Salon Teams Compete for Global Beauty Master at 2014 Battle of the Strands
It was a hair raising (meant in an awesome way) experience inside the Silverton Hotel's Veil Theater on Monday, October 6, as six winning salon teams from around the world, including Jamaica, United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, competed for the title of the Global Beauty Master at Battle of the Strands 2014. This World Cup of Beauty is the most extreme hair, makeup and wardrobe competition of all time showcasing an amazing array of innovative, creative and artistic fantasy designs.

Co-hosts for the live presentation was husband and wife team of Woody and Amy Mishleb, Creative Director and National Training Directors for Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas, owners of Woody Michleb Product. Among the highly respected industry insiders that participated as judges for the live competition were award-winning photographer Babak, Vidal Sassoon’s Creative Director Dusan Grant, Los Angeles-based freelance stylist Diana Schmidtke, and Cycle 14 winner of “America’s Next Top Model” Krista White.

The competition featured statuesque models parading across the stage in each of their team's best eye popping colorful costumes, stunning makeup and nails and, of course, most imaginative, avant garde hair designs that incorporate different textures and materials with the model's real hair, that drew oohs and ahs from everyone in the room including the judges. Choosing the winner was a difficult decision for the esteemed panel of judges since every amazingly talented salon team offered up winning creations, each as equally dazzling as the next. Yet, after the judges deliberated, the Wanda Montes Squad from Puerto Rico walked away with the title of 2014 Global Beauty Master that included $100,000 worth of prizes and $10,000 in cash.

During the competition the audience was encouraged to text their choice for the People Choice Award with the winner eventually announced as Red Door Spa from the U.S.A.
Live entertainment was provided by rising pop star Manika and rock string quartet Bella Electric Strings with a cappella group Mosaic appearing on video.

Battle of the Strands was LIVE STREAMED to 660 plus theaters nationwide through Fathom Events and will air on the Discovery Fit and Health Network as a four part docu-series titled "Global Beauty Masters".
